Product Form and Model Making every day object magnificationn project
For my 'Make Things Big' project I chose interlinked paper clips and magnified them ten times. I was instructed to recreate my object exactly and with as much detail as possible. I used steel rods and a metal bender. In order to get the correct sizes I had to make my own dies out of aluminum blocks on the metal lathe. Once I made one paper clip, I threaded another steel bar through and finished the second paper clip. I used an angle grinder to finish the ends and add detail. To paint it, I covered the ends with tape and hung them horizontally with fishing line on a chain in a way that the pieces were not touching each other. I sprayed them all with a few coats of Plasti-Dip, then spray painted each color while covering up the others before adding a matte coat as a finishing touch.
